The Billericay School

Primary School Events and Sports Leaders

Primary School Events

This last term has been a busy one for our primary school events.  We have hosted a B/C team level tournament for those students that did not get the opportunity to play earlier in the year which was a lovely morning of developmental Netball for all of the Billericay primary schools.  The following week we then hosted the partnership finals where the top two schools from Billericay, Wickford, South Woodham and Dengie played in the Partnership Netball Finals.  It was a fantastic morning of top level primary Netball with Quilters coming in 2nd place and Buttsbury in 1st so a great day for the Billericay area.  Big shout out to the amazing Netball Leaders who have worked hard at all of the Netball events of the year to set up and umpire throughout the mornings contributing to smooth running and successful events.

Following on from the Netball we then started our festival season with our KS1 Teddy Bear Festival.  We hosted 120 students from two local primary schools for a fun morning of multiskills.  This promotes young students to take part in fun sports skills stations with a small element of competition.  This was again supported, setup and run by our current group of legacy leaders so a big well done to them for demonstrating their confidence, organisation and leadership skills to ensure a smooth running event.  We are looking forward to more festivals and sports days over the coming half term.

Sports Leaders

Over the past couple of term 35 students across Year 8 and 9 have completed the Legacy Leaders course. The students were picked by their PE teachers who felt they were the ideal candidate to become a Sports Leader.

This is a certificated course that teaches students how to be an effective Sports Leader.  It looks into the qualities of what makes a good leader.  Why do we admire certain leaders and why are they good at their jobs.  It also teaches the students how to plan a sports session and deliver it effectively.  During the course each student had to lead a short session to their peers.  Now that they have successfully completed the theory elements of the course they will spend the summer term using their acquired skills and knowledge at a variety of primary school events.  Well done to all of the students that worked hard throughout the course and will continue to develop their skills at primary school events over the next year.
