Sixth Form Volunteers Host Children from Belarus, June 2017
A group of children from Belarus was treated to a day of fun activities organised and led by sixth form students. The children were on a month long visit organised by the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline. The first session of sporting games and activities was greatly enjoyed by all. The next session included mask making, hand printing and a treasure hunt outside. Lunch followed, kindly provided and warmly served by the kitchen staff. After lunch cake decorating and arts and crafts were just some of the activities prepared by students that brought big smiles to the faces of our guests. The afternoon ended with students and children exchanging 'goodbye' and 'Poca'.
Having learnt about the effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and its effects on the local population, sixth form students commented on how much they had valued the experience, not only in leading the activities but also in communicating with the children and learning more about another culture, understanding that we share a common humanity that transcends borders.

Sixth Form Volunteers Host Children from Ukraine, July 2016
A group of visiting children from Ukraine was treated to a day of fun activities organised and led by sixth form students. The first session of music involved the children using a variety of instruments to create ‘soundscapes’, as well their learning English songs and singing Ukrainian songs to the English audience. The next session comprising sporting activities including trampolining and dance, was greatly enjoyed by all. Lunch followed, kindly provided and warmly served by the kitchen staff. After lunch, face painting, cake decorating and arts and crafts were just some of the activities prepared by students that brought big smiles to the faces of our guests. The afternoon ended with students and children exchanging 'goodbye' and 'Poca'.

Sixth Form help for Hamelin House
As part of our BTEC Health and Social Care course our class went to visit Hamelin House, where we were inspired by the hard work and dedication the charity put in to helping people who are less able. Miss Johal arranged for us to take part in a competition to raise funds for the charity and gave us an opportunity to contribute to the community. Our class was split in two competing groups, and were given £50 each to raise money for the charity. The two teams organised events, from setting up a stall and raffle in Asda, to various fund raising events at youth clubs. After all our team work and fundraising, the total we raised was £454. We were excited by how much we had raised. This money will help provide for the people in Hamelin Trust and be of great use.

The first session of sports including trampolining and badminton was greatly enjoyed by all. After lunch, face painting, cake decorating, printing and fun competitions were just some of the activities prepared by students that brought big smiles to the faces of our guests. The afternoon ended with students and children exchanging 'goodbye' and 'Poca'.

The Billericay and South Essex Link of the Chernobyl Children's Lifeline is always looking for host families. Children are hosted in pairs and are here for a month's recuperation holiday from mid - June to mid July. Next year the visiting children will be from Belarus.
